Amravati attracts students from all over the world. Primary education begins in schools, which are either run by the AMC or privately by trusts and individuals, Schools run by AMC are called public schools and the other – private. Majority of the people often prefer private schools because of the good facilities and also because of the use of English as the learning medium. All the private schools are affiliated either with the Maharashtra state Secondary Schools Certificate (SSC) board or CBSE boards. The colleges in Amravati are affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati, Established on 1st May, 1983, the auspicious Maharashtra Day & Worker’s Day. The Motto of this University is – “Education for Salvation of Soul’’. Sant Gadge Baba Amravati university has taken a lead in starting various Post Graduate Courses in different subjects of higher learning. There are 21 Post Graduate Departments offering different educational programmes.
  
 
The district is also reputed for the technical education. There are three Engineering colleges viz.

1)  Government College of Engineering, Amravati.
2) V.Y.W.S. College of Engineering, Badnera (Rly), Amravati.
3) Sipana College of Engineering, Amravati  and four polytechnic colleges.
              
In Amravati, there are four medical colleges of which two run Ayurvedic course, one for each Allopathy, Homeopathy, and one Dental College. viz.
 
1) Panjabrao Deshmukh Memorial Medical College, Amravati.
2) Vidarbha Ayurved Mahavidyalaya, Amravati.
3) V.Y.W.S. Dental College, Amravati.
4) Shri Vallabh Takhatmal College of Homeopathy, Amravati.
5) Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Institute of Homeopathic Medical Science, Amravati
 
The only law college in Amravati is Panjabrao Deshmukh Law College.

A coveted degree from a reputed institute may well be the dream of many a student. Securing such a degree may not be within the reach of many. Good education can be expensive, but cost alone should not stop a deserving student from pursuing his/her education.
